Algorithmswhat each one does to a pixel

| Floyd–Steinberg | diffusion | Spreads each pixel's rounding error to four neighbours. Soft, grainy gradients. |
| Atkinson | diffusion | Passes on only three quarters of the error. Crisp, high-contrast, classic early-desktop look. |
| Bayer 2×2 | ordered | A tiny fixed threshold grid. Very coarse, very graphic. |
| Bayer 4×4 | ordered | The familiar cross-hatch pattern of ordered dithering. |
| Bayer 8×8 | ordered | Finer ordered pattern with smoother tone steps. |
| Halftone | screen | Dots on a rotated grid; dot size follows the tone, like print. |
| Threshold | plain | Each pixel snaps to the nearest palette colour. No pattern, hard edges. |
| Pixelate | plain | Big pixels only. Keeps the source colours unless a palette is forced. |
